Day 1: Tbilisi – Zugdidi - Mestia
In the morning we leave for Svaneti. It will take a long time and therefore we will make several stops on our way. The first stop is in Zugdidi - the administrative center of Samegrelo province. We shall visit the palace of the princes Dadiani, the former rulers of Samegrelo. The palace today is a museum where the richest collection of antiquities is collected. On its territory there is also a botanical garden. Then we shall have lunch and go towards the Caucasian mountains. On the way we shall stop near Enguri HPP and the waterfall. In the evening we arrive in Mestia. Accommodation at the hotel and dinner. Overnight stay in Mestia.
Day 2: Mestia – Ushguli - Mestia
After breakfast, on the 4x4car we head towards the highest settlement in Europe, the village Ushguli. Ushguli, with its fortification towers, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way we shall drive into the villages of Ipari and Kala to visit the oldest churches where fresco paintings dating from the 12th century were preserved. In the village Kala, in the church of St. Kvirike and St. Ivlita - in Svan language -Lagurka, the church treasure (10-12th- 13th centuries) is preserved, which belongs to this settlement - medieval embossed and painted icons. There is also an ancient icon decorated with enamel, and is called "Shaliani icon". After a picnic lunch*, we shall visit the ethnographic museum of Ushguli and the church Lamaria (9-10th century) and then we walk to the glacier Shkhara - the highest peak in Georgia (5068m). In the evening, return to Mestia and dinner. Overnight stay in Mestia.
Day 3: Mestia and its environs
Today you shall have an opportunity to visit the historical and ethnographic museum in Mestia, which contains ancient Georgian manuscripts, ethnographic and archaeological artifacts of antiquity, Georgian Orthodox icons; On the cable car, you will go up the mountain Khatsval, from where you can see a stunning view of Ushba (4700m). After lunch* we shall visit the villages: Latali and
Lemjeri, located near Mestia, where you shall have the opportunity to explore the oldest churches with medieval frescoes. Dinner and overnight stay in Mestia.
Day 4: Mestia - Martvili Canyon – Tbilisi
After breakfast, we shall head for Tbilisi. On the way to Samegrelo, we shall visit Martvili Canyon. A natural monument is a valley cut in the form of a canyon, whose length is 2500 m. In addition, in the middle of the canyon there are small waterfalls with a height of about 15 m. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the wild nature and go boating. Arrival in Tbilisi in the evening.
