Khevsureti is the region in the mountains of eastern Georgia, on the slopes of the Caucasus Range and includes upper reaches of the rivers Arguni and Khevsuretis Aragvi. Khevsureti and its neighbouring mountainous region of Pshavi together were called Pkhovi. The area consists of two parts - Piriketa (outward) and Piraketa (inward) Khevsureti.

They are connected with Arkhoti and Datvisjvari passes. The alpine landscapes, mountain paths, icy streams and loud rivers make this land unforgettable. Here, traditions and customs are as rough as the surrounding landscape. The sites of interest are: Shatili fortess village, Mutso tower village, Gudanis Djvari, Khakhmati fortress, Kakhmati St. George cross, Anatory vaults, Akhieli fortress and Lebais Kari fortress.

A pleasant walk from the town of Stepantsminda brings you to the much-photographed 14th century  Gergeti Trinity Church, set against the perpetually snowy peak of Mt. Kazbegi at an altitude of 2170m. The path takes a varied route through wildflower meadows, deciduous woodland and conifer belts, providing a changing tapestry of flora and fauna as you walk.

Mount Kazbegi  – in Georgian known as Mkinvartsveri (“Ice-Top”), this perpetually snow-covered giant is, at 5047m, one of the highest peaks in the Caucasus. Kazbegi is steeped in legend: the ancient Greeks believed that Prometheus was chained to the rocky flanks of the mountain as a punishment for stealing fire from the Gods and giving it to mortals, while Christian legend tells that the manger of Christ was brought to Kazbegi and is still hidden somewhere hereabouts. Whether you believe these tales or not, climbing the mountain is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Sno Gorge  – Located in Khevi province Sno gorge is a popular place among hikers as it gives you the chance to enjoy breath-taking views, virgin nature and get to know the every-day life of locals. A little path through the gorge will take you to another attractive part of the Caucasus – Khevsureti region.

The wonderful scenery of Truso gorge is sure to make an unforgettable impression on you. You will see some remote villages with defensive towers as you travel alongside the Tergi River. The area is also rich in mineral springs that flow down the rocks and change their colour.

Juta is the second highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe (2100m above sea level), enclosed by spectacular peaks. 6 months a year the village is cut off from the rest of the world by snow. This is one of the highlights in Georgia for trekking lovers. Here begins the ascent to the rocky slopes of Chaukhi mountain range (2580 m), visible all the way. You will enjoy the Rhododendron meadows and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Dariali Gorge  – one of the most spectacular gorges along the Tergi River stretching from the town of Stepantsminda to the Georgian-Russian (North Ossetian) border.  The name comes from the Persian ‘Dar-y-Alan’ meaning ‘Gate of the Alans

Located in the village of Gveleti. You must first drive through the stunning Dariali Gorge, from where there is a narrow path leading to the Gveleti Waterfall . There is short and easy trail that you need to walk to reach the waterfall. Beautiful untouched nature, lush wildflowers and crystal clear air are making the site certainly worth seeing.

Mtiuleti is a region in eastern Georgia. Situated mainly at 1050 m above sea level, it includes the gorge of the river Tetri Aragvi. At the southern approaches to Mtiuleti lies Mtiulkari, to the north - Trusoskari and Khevi, from the east it is bordered with Gudamakari gorge, and from the West - by Lomisi Range.

The nature is picturesque with alpine meadows of yellow rhododendron, mountain passes studded with medieval watchtowers, sparkling waterfalls, dark profound gorges and far giant glaciers. Numerous small-sized churches and basilicas, defensive towers, fortifications, Ananuri architectural complex (16th c) Bodorna, Khorogo, Tseskhli djvari, Gudimonasteri. are all preserved with meticulous care in Mtiuleti.

Ananuri architectural complex belonged to the house of the Eristavi of Aragvi - a violent local ruler. The characteristic architectural design of the late medieval period includes a fortress, two churches, an old watch tower, prison and civic buildings. Located on the famous Georgian Military Highway it stood as a guardian to the Northern boarders of Georgia. A picturesque view of reservoir spread bellow opens from the base of the Ananuri Fortress.
